QUEEN OF SANCTUARY [print]

$30.00

This is a high quality print of a mixed media collage QUEEN OF SANCTUARY from Emily Stone's series FEMME FATALE FREED. This series is an expression of the feminine experience as examined through a historical lens. Femme Fatale was a cultural obsession of lethal women during the second half of the nineteenth century. This fixation was rooted in misogyny, sexualization, and a woman’s forced dependency on men. Through this collage series, artist Emily Stone extricated these women from the paintings presented in Patrick Bade’s book Femme Fatale with the objective of creating a new setting for each heroine that is liberating and devoid of the male influence. By doing so, Stone aims to contribute to the dismantling of the singular perspective history has generally been expressed through and promote the empowerment of all people, especially female identifying people. FEMME FATALE FREED creates space for and celebrates those who were both a part of and silenced throughout history.

QUEEN OF SANCTUARY is a liberated reinterpretation of Walter Crane's Femme Fatale illustration for Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
